Die Suva ist die grösste Trägerin der obligatorischen Unfallversicherungen in der Schweiz. Die Dienstleistungen der Suva umfassen Prävention (SuvaPro, SuvaLiv), Versicherung (SuvaRisk) sowie Schadenmanagement und Rehabilitation (SuvaCare). Als selbstständiges Unternehmen des öffentlichen Rechts, ist die Suva selbsttragend, ohne öffentliche Gelder und gibt Gewinne in Form von tieferen Prämien an die Versicherten zurück. Im Verwaltungsrat sind die Sozialpartner – Arbeitgeber und Arbeitnehmer – und der Bund vertreten. Im Rahmen der VUV beaufsichtigt die Suva die Anwendung der Vorschriften über die Verhütung von Berufsunfällen in Betrieben mit besonderen Gefahren oder besonderen Arbeitsmitteln.
