OiRA stands for Online Interactive Risk Assessment. It is a web-based tool that allows you to perform a health and safety risk assessment of your workplace. Risk assessment is essential in establishing a healthy workplace and is key in reducing occupational accidents and ill health.

OiRA is designed specifically to support you in assessing the risks at work and helping you to produce a documented risk assessment including an action plan tailored to your requirements. It is easy to use and available for free.

OiRA tools are created at sector level by OSH experts and sectoral social partners (employer and employee organisations). You can already access different OiRA tools.

OiRA is developed by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) and designed to be of most value to smaller businesses.

VeSafe is your tool for good practice solutions and will help you to implement the OiRA action plan. VeSafe is the link to OiRA solutions.

More than 10 OiRA tools for the transport sector are available.

There are four main steps to reduce your risks:

Identification

OiRA presents a series of potential health and safety hazards or problems that could exist in your workplace. You decide what is relevant for your company.

Evaluation

Determine the level of each risk. The result is a summary of the bottlenecks in your company. For each bottleneck you will evaluate the magnitude of the hazards: you define the risks.

Action Plan

Indicate how to solve the risk and plan who does what and when. You indicate how you will solve the bottlenecks. Compare all the risks on the list and place them in the correct order. Which risks are the most threatening?

Report – keep it up to date

Implement the plan and discuss the progress with your employees every year.
